Gatwick Airport: Majority stake sold to French firm

Created: Monday, 31 December 2018 Written by Katherine O`Neill

French construction company, Vinci, have acquired 50.1% of Gatwick Airport in a move that adds a major London hub their aviation portfolio.

Gatwick has been under pressure from competition with London's other airport - Heathrow, Europe's busiest hub - in an attempt to try to win government backing for a new runway. Drones had been spotted in a chaotic run up to Christmas leaving opertaions at Gatwick in disarray leading to a prolonged shutdown.

The 120-year old engingeering company, who run France's parking and toll roads, are not discouraged by Brexit looming and see airports as an attractive investment and worth the gamble.
