Frenchman voyages across the Atlantic

Created: Thursday, 27 December 2018 Written by Katherine O`Neill

In a refreshing change from festive-related news, a French ex-military paratrooper, Jean-Jacques Savin, has set sail across the Atlantic in a barrel-shaped orange capsule. Mr Savin hopes to reach the Caribbean in 3 months with propulsion from ocean currents alone.

The 71-year-old will be celebrating New Year and his birthday on January 14th from his 3x2.1m space with the foie gras and wine he's stashed on board. He's taken a St Emillion with him and left one where he hopes to dock in order to see the effect that bobbing around for 3 months has on his wine! There's an experiment we can get behind.

Best of luck to Mr Savin, who'll be watching the fish out of his porthole and gathering information for oceanographers.
